About Me

Originally from New York, I have spent the last decade working in both the media and outdoor industries. After taking a gap year that included teaching English in Costa Rica and interning at a newspaper in New Zealand, I returned stateside to attend Syracuse University's prestigous Newhouse School to pursue a journalism degree. I found myself back in NYC after graduating to work as an assistant first in financial news at Reuters Breakingviews, and then for luxury lifestyle publications Gotham Magazine and Hamptons Magazine. I later took on a news reporter role for the Long Beach Herald, covering an oceanfront city where surfers can see the silhouette of the Empire State Building rising up from the break.

After spending my post-graduate years working as a journalist in New York, my life took an abrupt turn when I packed up and moved to Lake Tahoe, California. I left the East Coast behind to spend my days soaking up the sunshine on the slopes of the Palisades Tahoe ski resort. After four years working for the Palisades Tahoe Ski Team as the Jr. Development Team Manager, where I was tasked with building a new ski racing program for our youngest athletes, I was fortunate to find an opportunity to return to the media industry while still keeping my love of skiing as a prime focus. I currently serve as the Public Relations Manager for Palisades Tahoe, meaning I may or may not be responding to your email from a chairlift.

PUBLIC RELATIONS & CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Through pitching and on-site media hosting, I have secured coverage for Palisades Tahoe in national publications like Outside Magazine, the LA Times, Martha Stewart Living, Forbes, Matador Network, Men's Journal and more. I also manage editorial television shoots to increase the awareness and visibility of the resort. I've worked with Emmy-winning travel shows, big-budget documentaries and even a live Australian morning show broadcast that involved seven location changes. Lastly, I serve as the point of contact during crisis situations, which is not my favorite part of my role, but is truly a crucial function and one I take seriously and soberly prep for.

JOURNALISM

I studied journalism at Syracuse University's Newhouse School, but prior to even enrolling in college I got my first taste of the newsroom during an internship at a newspaper group in Wellington, New Zealand. In the more than a decade since, I have worked in digital news, print publications, TV and radio, both on staff and on a freelance basis. I enjoy interviewing people, getting deep into a beat, cultivating sources, diving into stacks of policy memos and finding fresh angles to pitch. I have also received regional, state and national awards for my news writing and reporting.

SPOKESPERSON & MEDIA INTERVIEWS

When you experience a record-setting snow season, the media comes knocking down your door. During the 2018-19 ski season, I participated in more than 75 television, radio and digital media interviews, both live and pre-recorded. I have spoken not only on weather and conditions, but events and activities, construction projects and community initiatives. Of course, sometimes the news isn't so fun, but it's important to craft the right response and always be ready to respond to the uneasy questions as well.

ADVOCACY & PUBLIC SPEAKING

Working in the outdoor industry, I often have found myself being the sole woman in the room. As the only female head coach on the Palisades Tahoe Ski Team, I made it a priority of mine to mentor young female coaches and work to change the landscape of the profession that perpetuated this gender disparity. I helped found a monthly roundtable discussion for our women coaches, to discuss the fair treatment and advancement of women into leadership positions. I also am an ambassador for the nonprofit She Jumps, whose mission is to increase the participation of women and girls in the outdoors. As an ambassador, I organize free and low-cost outdoor education events to teach women new outdoors skills in an effort to lower the barrier to entry for these activities. In 2019, I was invited to speak on a panel at the Association of Pro Patrollers annual conference that was focused on the advancement of women in the ski patrol profession.
